Sterns Park Rehab Project
The City of Los Alamitos is thrilled to announce the upcoming rehabilitation of Sterns Park, approved by the City Council with funding from General Funds, Community Development Block Grant, and Measure Y funds. We’ve partnered with Hirsch & Associates, Inc. to design an exciting new space that will enhance the park's appeal and accessibility.
Key features of the revitalization include:
- A sleek fully ADA-accessible playground designed for children of all abilities.
- A brand new shade structure with picnic benches, perfect for small gatherings.
- Improved pathways and facilities to meet ADA standards.
- Modern, energy-efficient lighting throughout the park.
- Attractive exercise equipment suitable for all ages, including accessible stations on rubberized surfaces.
- Fresh landscaping to enhance the park’s beauty.
We are committed to creating an inclusive and vibrant environment for our community to enjoy!

Project Paused:
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) was notified by community members and subsequently confirmed that there is a Swainson’s hawk nest adjacent to Sterns Park.
Swainson’s hawk is a threatened species under the California Endangered Species Act (CESA) (Fish and Game Code, § 2067). Swainson’s hawk is a species at risk of extinction due to loss of nesting and foraging habitat, urban development, environmental contaminants, and climate change.
The City of Los Alamitos postponed the project until after August 31 to give the hatchlings time to fledge (i.e., fledged meaning young birds are able to fly and are mature enough to leave the nest).
