Signing and Striping Improvements on Lexington Drive
The City of Los Alamitos plans to improve traffic striping along Lexington Drive, from Katella Avenue to Farquhar Avenue. The project is proposing to modify the existing striping along this portion of roadway to be oriented in a 45-degree angled parking configuration to increase parking spaces. The project will address issues such as speeding, parking deficiency, and corner visibilities along Lexington Drive following City Council recommendation. Red curbs and existing striping will also be refreshed in this segment.
Lexington Drive is a 64-foot, two lane (one lane in each direction) north-south roadway with parking allowed on both sides. The posted speed limit is 30 mph. Lexington Drive connects Katella Avenue to the north and Joint Forces Training Base to the south. Adjacent land uses are residential. The proposed plan will create for an orderly traffic flow by keeping vehicles within the lane lines, improve safety, improve corner visibility at intersections and driveways, and most importantly will create an additional 20+ parking spaces along the entire length of Lexington Drive between Katella Avenue and Farquhar Avenue.
Work will take place during the day and traffic will remain open in each direction. Driveways will remain open, except for the brief time that the striping is being sprayed in front of any driveway. The work will take approximately up to 4 weeks and is slated to begin in late January 2025.
